LYDIA SLABY
The Village of Rhinebeck is a remarkable community. Every day, I see neighbors helping neighbors create this place by showing up for each other, community events, the firehouse, the schools. We all want to live in a community where everyone thrives, and I have had the privilege of seeing this energy at work in Village Hall, where I have had the honor of working my tail off for you as Village Trustee since October 2020.
I see my role as supporting this community to thrive by improving government practices and services for now and for the future and by helping to create opportunities for the community to embody the vision and values that guide us all. Upon learning that our Comprehensive Land Use Plan was 30 years old, I encouraged the Board to complete Comprehensive Plan Committee in a community-driven process that resulted in our new 2024 Comprehensive Plan. I am now focused on how that Plan is implemented: crafting a update to our zoning code, expanding our inventory of affordable housing, encourage the development of community spaces and a village green while preserving our historic character and assets.
I see us all working towards a shared vision that supports our shared belief that we are a vibrant, kind, connected community that values our history and wants to create continued opportunities for us all to thrive. We are at our best when we work together, incorporating our varied perspectives and beliefs, as the best versions of ourselves.
For those of you who I haven’t gotten to know yet, I am an author, a former Sidley Austin restructuring attorney, former deputy chief of staff for municipal policy for Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick, a sister, an auntie, and a proud Rhinebecker.
